When people say "Jiu Jitsu" in the U.S., they’re usually referring to Brazilian Jiu Jitsu (BJJ). BJJ is a specific style of Jiu Jitsu that focuses on ground fighting, submissions, and positional control, and it was developed in Brazil from traditional Japanese Jiu Jitsu.
While Japanese Jiu Jitsu was originally a broader system that included strikes, joint locks, throws, and self-defense techniques, Brazilian Jiu Jitsu specializes in live sparring (rolling) and techniques that allow a smaller person to control and submit a larger opponent on the ground.
At Fourth Dimension Jiu Jitsu, we teach Brazilian Jiu Jitsu (BJJ) with a focus on practical, effective techniques for both sport and self-defense.
